I should think your mechanic is in error on this one. He says the VW originals are hard to find and very expensive since they are so rare, and none of the aftermarket pumps have very good quality. He suggests a VW remanufacture but hasn't gotten back to me on price. I'd love any opinions or info so I can have a more informed discussion with him before making a decision.
