I was over in France last week viewing the Tour de France (in the Alps and Provence). While biking (very slowly) up to the top of the Galibier to view the stage I amused myself by stopping and talking with many VW camper owners who were parked along the road with their campers. I met folks from the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. About half had pop-top Vanagons, and the rest had high tops. It's amazing to see all the campers! To get an idea of the crowds at the Galibier stage (July 13), check out this photo looking down from the top: http://www.brianwasson.com/tdf2005/pages/DSC_1808.htm.
