Hello alI, I have a 1.9 1984 Vanagon with 150,000 + miles, which means I will need to get a new engine sooner rather than later. I have heard of many conversions (Ticco, Jetta, Subaru, Audi), then there are the "refurbished Vanagon engines (Gowesty and Unique imports) to name two. My question is what is the best option for a 1.9 since most engine conversion/rebuilds are geared towards the 2.1? There are things to consider, horse power, torque, longevity, and will a VW mechanic or any other mechanic (other than the person who installed it) service the "new" engine. Lots of questions, I am looking to get a few "hands on" experience opinions from the list group. Thank you for your time, Emil 1984 ASI camper |
