For the hitch, try asking Ron at Bus Depot, he sells them too - though he seems to be out of them lately...

It's about Porsche speedometers, but the instrutions work for the Vanagon too. Just be sure to LIGHTLY crimp the pot metal gear, too much and it won't go back on the shaft...
