Subject: Alternator died
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Hi all,

Yesterday the 2 external voltage regulators arrived and I installed the first one in my 90 and it worked great. My digital charger/tester went from 0% on the alternator test to 103% when the regulator was maxed out. I then backed it off to 100% or about 14.2V.

Then I did the same for my 84. Fired up the engine, turned on the headlights and !!!!!!!!???????????????RPS#$^%#^%^%@#! The alt. output was 0 and the voltage was 12.5 and dropping! Put the old regular in and same thing. Checked the connections, brushes, contacts and tried again. Same thing! No output.

Now, before I go and spring for a rebuilt alt., I thought I should write you guys for any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help.
