I think one key to surviving in an area that is known for bear activity is
............. never go in a westy that you've ever cooked bacon in.
As for myself; Anytime I cooked Bacon in my Westy I went down the road for
about six months salivating until the odors subsided.
It normally took that six months.
I learned to do my bacon cooking at home and pack the bacon along in plastic
bags.
