If you still have the cloth covered lines you can have leaks and never see them. The rubber underneath the covering can become as porous as a cloth and you will smell the vapors very clearly. The problem is to tell which line. So I just replace all of them.

Also another strange item. Last summer during the really peak hot days I was developing a gas odor after driving for a while but seemed to trace it to the gas cap. (a locking one) with the 100 degreeF plus days recently the odor was back extremely strong and traced back to my filler cap area. I am now going to examine the inside of the filler area where the filler neck goes through the body.
