Use 15W-50 or 20W-50 oil, 10W-40 is too thin (and 5W-30 is thin enough that I would worry about my bearings...). Conventional or synthetic, your call. I change conventional oil every 3,000 miles and synthetic oil every 5,000 miles (but that is just me!).
