This is not correct. It is the aircooled 80-83 tranny that has the 4.57. All the waterboxers have essentially the same gearing, whether 1.9 or 2.1, at least in North American models. 4.83 and 4.86 were both used. The diesels had radically different final drives, 5.86 and 5.43 In other markets there were various ratios offered.
