The 3/8-24 service valve is also common to Ford and some GM cars of that era. Any good auto tool supply should be able to get it for you.

I posted this question just before the list went down.

My R-12 gauges do not fit the high side service valve located behind the closet on my stock non converted system. After checking with Bentley I found.

Bentley 87.15 A/C adaptor valve VAG 1637, installing:

"Beginning in May 1988 the threaded connection on the AC high pressure service valve was changed from 7/16"-20 UNF to 3/8"-24 UNF. Use special adaptor VAG 1637 when making a connection to the high pressure service valve."

Can someone tell me where I can locate one of these adaptor valves? A quick google for VAG 1637 and/or the conversion sizes came up with nothing.

There has to be someone servicing there own AC on a 88 or newer Vanagon.

Thanks, Todd 90 Syncro Westy
