Subject: Alternator died, the continuing saga...

Thanks to all of you who offered help with this wacko alternator.

Thing is, after Mark had suggested I take a look at the blue wire connected to the back of the unit, I found it to be less than ideal and replaced about 6" of it. Put the old regulator back in after that. Polished up all of the connections and slapped the thing back together. (Getting much faster at this now, after so many times.) Switched on the battery, fired up the starter and, YES!, it works! 14.0 volts output and I was a happy camper.

So then I pulled out the old regulator, put in the new remote adjustable regulator and IT DID NOT WORK!!! AAARRRRGGGG! So I went to have a beer at the local watering hole with a friend to take a break from it all.

Question is, do I have a bad new regulator or is there an intermittent problem with something else?
