Unfortunately, my hernia surgery went just as described, massively bruised
privates and all. It really surprised me to find out how many of my friends
and acquaintances, from entomologist to programmer to mechanic, have had
hernias and suffered from hernia surgery. Major design flaw, apparently. The
Hernia Clinic in Southern Ontario does hundreds of repairs a day(!), all of
them of the old-fashioned external variety, the laparoscopic version being
more susceptible to collateral damage, mostly from when they inflate you
like a beachball to provide some working room! You'll survive it, though.
