But you make my point, one comp claim means NOTHING to the price of your
policy. As a group, you are correct, it does affect price. So if you live in
a ZIP code that has a high number of claims, your price would go up
regardless if you personally file any claims or not. Additionally, the
amount of increase would be small vs. the average price of a break-in,
assuming that you don't have a $500 deductible. Another example would be if
you involved in three accidents, none of which are your fault. Does your
rate go up for filing the claims?? No. As a matter of fact, a lot of
insurance companies will "waive" your deductible if you are found not at
fault. Heck, most of the large carriers have "Direct Repair" shops that
will handle all but making the initial call.
