I did this same thing on the back of an Audi 5000 that I delivered to my uncle near Toronto. We welded a plate up that had a bar in the middle that was the same size as the front hub on my Honda CB450. We then bolted the plate to the backside of the Audi, removed the Honda front wheel and bolted it to the plate using the original axle bolt. For stability, we attached a couple of tie-downs to the handle bars and to the Audi bumper brackets. To reduce wear and tear, I also removed the motorcycle chain prior to making the 2000+ mile trek from San Diego to Toronto. No problems except backing up was near impossible. Cheers, Jeff

Back in the '60s, when I had a Vespa motorscooter, I had a shop bend a piece of plate 90 degrees in the middle and put holes in it at the proper places. One hole was where the hitch ball bolted to the hitch. The plate then extended out, twisted to the vertical where a large hole was made to clear the hub and 4 smaller holes around it lined up with the lugs on the front of the Vespa. I removed the Vespa's front wheel, bolted the lugs to the "adapter" and towed it, rear wheel down, from Texas to Florida ... then to Connecticut ... and later to Virginia. The only downside was having to pay for another axle at toll booths. Mike |
