I've done it both ways. Most recently, on my '85 Westy, I cut the old hoses out from under the securing rings using a #11 x-acto. I then put on new hoses reusing the original rings and no clamps at the injector ends of the hoses. I've since put over 5,000 miles on it without even a hint of a weep.
