Subject: Westy A/C Drip CURED!!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Hi,

A few days ago I had a problem with the A/C in my 87 Westy....after a while water would drip down from the rear unit where the fan, etc. is. One of the suggestions was to see if the check valves on the end of the drain plug were still working or even still in place.

I checked, and lo and behold, no check valves. As it turns out the check valves are the same check valves that were installed on the oil breather pipes of Beetles from 64 or so and beyond. Picked up a couple at my local FLAPS and installed them two days ago and no drip!!

Apparently what happens is without the check valves, high pressure air from the air intakes blows the water up the drain tubes instead of down (the drain tubes are located behind the rear air intake grilles)....

If you are having a similar "drip" problem, perhaps the first thing to do is to check to see if you have the little check valves on the end of the drain tubes.

Ric
