Chris,

I have a 84 Vanagon and big the big brake kit and alloy wheel/tire kit from Gowesty. I did the installation myself and had not problem. As for what is needed for the 84 from the 86? You need the uprights, that it what I have heard them called, I also heard them called spindles. Basically you need the large steel piece which has the upper and lower ball joint attached to the top and bottom. Good Idea is to have the "press in" ball joint done while you have the uprights off the 86.

I got the kit through Gowesty because they have a combo deal if you buy the wheel/tire and big brake kit all at once (they better for $1,800.00)! There are other places like www.volkscafe.com, http://www.vanagain.com/acc_page.html and http://www.smallcar.com/brakekitft.htm, these are 3 that I know sell the kit, these other two used to, but now I can not find the kit on their web site, http://www.fastforward.ca/vanagon/vanagon.htm and http://www.tiico.com/Vanagon_Accessories.htm.The Van drives like a real car now!

My opinion- I like and now trust Peter at Volkscafe, honest and knowlegable.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you for your time, Emil
