Having just towed my van home 500 miles from Oregon to BC, I can recommend U Haul's car trailers. One way rental from Beaverton to Surrey, BC was $66.00 US. To me, that's a heck of a deal. Happy dragging, Jake. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ben S" <phlogiston420@GMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, August 05, 2005 11:18 AM Subject: Re: V'gon been sittin...Want to start her up again...recommendations

i'm not sure about that tow... i think you'd be better off with a flatbed. i'm pretty sure it says in bently how many miles the van can be towed with the rear (drive) wheels on the ground, and i'm pretty sure that the max number is somewhere around 30 or 40 miles. i think this has to do with transmission lubrication--with the tranny in neutral, the input (engine) side will not turn so the gear oil will not be distributed around the tranny for proper lubrication.

also, the fuel pump will only run for ~5 seconds with the engine off. you will need to pull the relay and install a jumper to run the pump continuosly. this procedure is documented in bently under fuel injection system tests in the section regarding flow volume testing of the fuel pump.

Ben.
