I found a man sleeping in my Vanagon parked in front of my house in Atlanta-Midtown. I frequently found the glove box rifled through and I had long since given up on the concept of locking a car in Atlanta.

I resolved my security issues by moving to a small city in Iowa. I still have lock cylinders in my Van that have toothpick wood jammed in them from my cross the street neighbor's kid so it no longer easily locks from the outside. Fortunately, I don't have much need to lock my Vanagon here.

I just don't think one can have a target like this parked on the street in any large city now. Think of it as income redistribution for the 21st Century.

<sigh>
