Yesterday about 4 p.m. we arrived back in Halifax after finishing the last leg (Michigan to Halifax) of our trip. The trip went without incident. 9 weeks, not sure how many kilometers/ miles the trip was, as the speedo cable broke in Alberta, but by most guesses, it is about 8,000 kms from Halifax to Vancouver, so that makes it 16,000 kms for sure, and add the side trips, so let's make it near enough to 18 to 20,000 kms. Slow speeds and synthetic motor and tranny oil I'm sure helped.

We kept track of ALL expenses for the trip and it cost us about $105CDN per day, to be on the road.

The only van troubles were the previously mentioned: 1) oil buzzer went off due to elect problems behind the dash, duct-tape provided a temp fix; 2) Speedo cable broke; 3) had to tighten one coolant hose clamp; 4) had to clean & lub the sliding door latch; 4) Metal brake-line had to be replaced, but that was a pre-existing problem 5) Stebro muffler bracket broke off, and I wired that up with a coat-hanger (again pre-exisitng problem).

Not bad for a 91 syncro westy with 300,000 kms and Weber carb.

The trip is not over till the van is cleaned out, and the oil changed, so you know where I'll be for the next 3 hours. Malcolm & Pat - safely!!! back in Halifax
