I think one person's reality shouldn't translate into a reaction to the actual likelihood that something might happen to someone else. I'm not really sure how to define reality. I don't watch television news so my reality is probably different from the reality that exists in the minds of many others.

Right now, to many people, and (I think) because of 24/7 cable TV news, there's an assault on white women--they're turning up missing everywhere you look. Well, they turn up missing on TV at least. Now, white women everywhere are scared to walk the streets at night when the statistics would indicate they might be safer now than at anytime in the last 30 years.

Here's a whole TV network devoted to missing white women <sheepish grin--and requires RealAudio>: http://www.onthemedia.org/stream/ram.py?file=raotm/otm062405f.mp3
