The best way to defeat a theft is defeat the ignition. There are a variety of ways to do this. There are ignition interlocks of old and the good old four -way boat switch. But if thieves want your car - they will take it-if it runs. Rarely do they drive up in a tow truck. And thieves are bold- burglars broke in to my neighbor's across the street a week ago and drove away while I watched. They parked in his driveway after he left for work in the morning around 8:30 AM . When I saw them leave,at about 10:00, it did'nt occur to me what was happening since it was day time, and they parked in the driveway, creating the appearance they were invited. I have four Vanagons here and they ignored the house- probably because they know I am here. Two nights earlier before the burglary they were parked in front of his driveway, at about 10:00 PM, both seen by the neigbor kid because he heard the rap music and saw them standing outside of their car. They sped off with the lights off. The moral of this story is take license numbers of suspicious vehicles as they may be casing your house or car to come back later to break into them. Had I only taken the license number down we may have caught them. Now I wonder if they will come back. Yesterday a vehicle with three youths in it drove 45 mph past here -the car looked familiar- but too fast to get a number. I'll try to have my camera on hand next time. The club is a joke as they can hacksaw the wheel. Battery switch under the rear switch with a dual battery will keep the igniton off .
