I was thinking about retrofitting power locks and an alarm to my Vgon as discussed in a thread a few months back. We don't get a lot of car theft or break-ins in general around here, but we have probably a grand worth of baby seats, etc. in our vehicle at any given time and people will steal that stuff pretty readily given the chance. We also occasionally go to the larger cities nearby including L.A. and that requires a whole different mindset. . So I'm wondering how difficult it would be to rig the aforementioned starter and fuel pump cut-outs to the keychain remote trigger. In other words, you lock the car with the remote and the cut-outs activate, and vice versa when you activate to unlock (this would have nothing to do with the physical position of the locks, I'm thinking- that is, it's strictly an electronic thing with no physical connection to the locks). This would make the whole process more convenient and wouldn't involve a switch near the seats that could readily be found by a crook. Of course there would have to be a manual switch hidden somewhere in case you lost the remote or the battery went dead or whatever. On another note, I remember reading a few years ago about a guy that rigged a recording (digital, I presume), with a slight delay, of a Rottweiler going apeshit to his car alarm. Trigger the alarm, the lights flash, the audible alarm goes off and a second or two later a large angry dog starts going nuts in the near vicinity (giving the impression that the dog was near or in the vehicle). If the lights, etc. aren't enough to run off the average punk, most people won't stick around to meet the dog. Dunno if it would deter a pro, but you can't have everything. This would also solve Stan's er... collateral substance problem. Any thoughts? Cya, Robert |
