All of the manual trannys have the vent. It is always in about the same location, on the top near the nose. Syncros have a large threaded hole for a vent hose to attach to. The 2wd just have a very small plain hole, often obscured by the crud that has built up there. If you are trying to find it with the tranny installed, good luck. Whichever model tranny it is, it is on top in the case section that the tranny nose mount bolts to, next to a bolt that holds that case section to the rest of the tranny. On your 84 there are 3 bolts along the top edge of the nose section. It is between the center and driver's side bolt, closer to the driver's side bolt.
