RE: Progressive Insurance Based on my experience I can also recommend Progressive for auto insurance. It took a little discussion and all my receipts but when I totalled my '85 the settlement was fair, in fact I was pleased with the results. This is going to depend on the claims office you are dealing with, the adjuster and his/her boss, and the laws in your state, but Progressive did a good job for me. Another caution: I'm in a market area (Puget Sound/NW) that has lots of Vanagon/Westfalias that sell so I was able to establish the true market value in the area. And I kept insisting that I didn't want money, I wanted a replacement vehicle. I kept pushing that. I did settle for a check and then found my own replacement, but this forced them to really look at the market in addition to the info from their appraisal service.
