Subject: Stiff shifter and no reverse prob solved.
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Was a real mystery as to why, after having the Vanagon on ramps for 3 days, I back it odown and the van is virtually ipossibvle to get into reverse. couldn't believe the 3 day jack up would dry out the shifter lube, so I put up with it until the other day I decided to inspect the right front squealy disc brake. Looking under the van, I see a huge dent in the spa plate/tray towards the hinge side, and lo and behold the spare tire is forced up against the shift rod!! Took some fancy banging with the sledge, but it's back to semi-normal. Man, I don't have a clue how that dent got there.

Guess I thought I'd better pass that little tidbit on.
