Hi Again to all Well i finally did some basic tests on the motor to recheck my rechecks and did find something very strange this evening. what i did is another simple compression check and almost passed out! just for the record before i even thought of putting this motor in i did a compression check to find it had 165 to 170 per cylinder. after installing it i got up the oil pressure and timed it, bled the cooling system and the valves chattered since it had just sat on a wood crate for 2 years it made a good chatter till the lifters charged and they got quiet the motor didnt run hot or act like anything was wrong what so ever other then running on 2 cyliders and such. so like i said i did a compression re-check since im lost on what to try next to find out that i have like 15psi in one, 25psi in 3 and 155 in 2. didnt get around to 4 but rechecked again 1/3 to find very low pressure. what gives?? i pulled the valve cover to just take a look and it is as clean as a new motor in there. i guess i need to do a leak down test to figure out where the pressure is going. did having it set for 2 years did the lifters over charge or the rings are gummed up and not sealing?? im even more lost now but i know why it isnt running on 1/3. so i had the motor that i took out of the 85 and pulled the head on the 3/4 side since # 4 had 5psi of pressure that led me to swapping the motor in the first place. i got it apart and did find just a small hair line crack between intake and exhaust but everything looked fine. where is all the pressure going?? if anyone has an idea i would like to hear it. im up for anything at this point. and i dont think i can hurt anything either. also i could put new pistons and cylinders with very nice heads on the one i pulled out and swap it back into the bus again i just thought it was easier to swap a motor then to pull the thing apart. thanks Jonce

>I had a similar problem on my 1.9. I had what I thought was good spark, but intermittent misses. I changed the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, distributor, and coil. I was fixing it for a short stretch of time, but the problem would ALWAYS return. I was getting desperate. I was thinking "This problem should be fixed. I have replaced EVERY piece in the ignition system!" That was when it hit me - I had not replaced every piece - the ignition module had not been touched yet. I grabbed my spare from my parts truck, and viola - my Butternut was whole again! If you are lucky enough to have a spare, please try that first - I had to cough up $172 for my new replacement!
