Originally, Westfalia used 1/8"+- thick baltic birch plywood for all the interior panels in their camper conversions! It is stronger than masonite as the plies run in perpendicular directions while masonite has no plies, but is more like particle board. Westy also used screws w/ little "countersunk" washers to hold the plywood in place just like vw did in their original panels. I think Westy stopped using plywood cuz it is more expensive than masonite-you get what you pay for? FWIW, Tom |
