Reading the messages about Optima batteries and warranties has reminded me of the Autolite battery that was in a Toyota pickup I just bought. It was only 11 months old so I was going to put it in my Vanagon...but it went bad immediately. It won't hold a load and I have about 2 weeks left on the full replacement warranty. I don't have the receipt for the battery and I don't know where it was bought. It's made by Exide(who make batteries for many major brands)...I called the battery warranty hotline and was told I had to have the original receipt or my tough luck! I called Kragen Auto Parts and they told me I had to have the receipt, or "tant pis pour vous". I'm not sure what other stores carry this battery, but I'd like to find a congenial store that will honor the warranty. There is nothing on the battery itself that states a requirement of having the original purchase receipt, although large white letters trumpet the one year free replacement warranty. I'm in the Los Angeles area. Does anyone know the names of the stores (auto parts, department stores?) that carry the Autolite or Exide brand?
