>> my exhaust system is gone..so my mechanic wants $1200 to replace the whole thing..including catalytic converter, muffler and all pipes...busdepot has it all for about $550.00 on the parts...not being to mechanically inclined, is this a good project to do myself? any secrets to succcess? << I find the Vanagon exhaust system get's pretty frustrating to install especially if you are doing the front and rear pipes that connect to the heads. Even after the torture of rusted bolts you have to watch not stripping the bolts on the heads. I'm in the same situation right now myself. My mechanic just patched a hole for me as he checked the price from the dealer and called to tell me that I should get the parts myself. I can go pick them up from Ron at the Bus Depot for less than half of what my mechanic can get them for and he'll (my mechanic) install then for me. Bryan |
