The reason for receipts is that most items are single warrantee to the orig
purchaser only. Even at the flaps I currently work at it is the same rules.
With shoplifting and other vehicle parts thefts, and retail fraud now at all
time highs, receipts for everything is the rule not a nice to have. With no
receipt on some items like a battery if the proper warrantee info was taken
and put in the computer it may be waived. But the person has to be the
purchaser to be able to provide the needed info and like I said they only
warrantee the orig purchase. When you purchased the battery it is legally a
used battery purchase. Any warrantee is through the person you purchased it
from.
Another thing with items like batteries is "commercial" sales items. With
no receipt they have no idea what terms you purchased the battery under.
Some commercial use items are sold with all the retail writing and packaging
but do not get warrantee. Batteries are one of those items sometimes sold
with limited warrantee terms on them to commercial concerns.
Most other categories of retailers are doing the same. With some retail
chains they will permit one no receipt but after that even the manager can't
override the system. BTW some big retailers have even listed people that
return to many items and will block returns from them.
Personally, I have a file I keep all "critical" receipts in.
