Subject: strange front suspension noises...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

HI all... I have some strange front right suspension noises. Here's the description: Every once and a while, when I go over a biggish bump (or a smallish bump on a highway), the front right suspension makes a loud metal "clanking" sound... maybe like something is moving that shouldn't be? Sometimes, a few seconds after the bump, there will be another noise (almost like something getting back into place). What are the things I should look for? I had the van down at Clarence's VW back a couple of weeks, and they checked it out for a couple of minutes without finding anything. (And they know their stuff, I think. Clarence's daily driver is a vanagon.) (When I drove it around with Clarence, it didn't make the noise, so diagnosis was kind of tricky....)

What are the things I can check for?

Thanks, Wes '84 vanagon
