Gentlemen and ladies What an engine has to overcome in acceleration is inertia and drag (wind resistance, road or rolling friction). To maintain a speed it only has to match the drag component. Weight or mass WILL affect rolling resistance and not surface drag. There may be an effect on turbulence and thus drag in the road/underbody space as the space will be affected by lowering the body on the suspension.

It's all too complicated to calculate so lets just agree that less weight equals higher mpg all other things being equal. Empty the junk out of your square rigger. You don't need the ballast. Cheers all
