Take the solenoid off and clean the plunger. It's a precision fit and just a small amount of oil and dust can cause it to drag.

I am looking at the starter in the Bentley and it does not resembles the one the Vanagon is using. Especially where the starter connects to the engine. The picture shows one that has a housing with a bushing. There is no such thing. Our bushing is in the bell housing! That is one. The next one is, the way the fork is moving the shaft. It is not at all like the one on the picture. Maybe I can figure it out without the help of a picture, but what is the point to put a different picture than what it really is? Mine is a Bosh remanufactured one.

I am trying to figure out why mine is not working. The brushes are long and not obstructed, the copper is nice, nothing dirty, the solenoid clicks when I want to start, but it still does not turn the engine. I have already cleaned up all the ground straps and body contact, at the transmission and the battery and the starter. Nothing. What is it now to do? Anyone? Zoltan
