Ed,

Hello from a local listee in Shawnigan Lake. I sold off my near new Bosch rebuilt starter recently to a listee, or you could have had it for a song. You were lucky to find Very Wise though, he is a good guy. Price sounds about right, and most shops would have charged that much in labour just to find the starter! I got my Bosch starter at CDN Tire for about $150 2 years ago, so they do have them. Feel free to drop me a line (743-9911) if you ever get stuck again - I may be able to help out. I've still got lots of parts from my '88 engine that I pulled out.

Regarding your rust repairs - where did you get the paint job done? It looks like the filler neck was not removed - it really should be. This is a nasty place for rust. The seam rust that appears below the neck is due to cracking of the undercoating behind the filler neck, and can only be cleaned up by pulling it all apart. I've found this on both my vans. If you did the paint job, and not the PO, you may be able to do the rust repairs yourself, then ask them to respray the area while the filler is removed.
