It has been my policy over the past 40 years to go out to a smaller community to get some title changes completed. I find that the clerks in the city (Dallas TX) are sticklers for details and that the Tax Office Clerks in smaller communities are more autonomous and easier to deal with. I recently changed the title on an Alabama registered Airstream trailer in a small town and the folks in Dallas Tax Office had already rejected all my possibilities for a transfer from their point of view. One phone call to the Alabama DPS and the deal flew through like a bird. You may need a friend's mailbox in that small town for your new title mailing address.
