<<It was so sad to listen to two guys who are so fun and funny, put down this wonderful gal who obviously has great affection for her 90 VW vanagon, and she is looking for a way to make it perhaps more reliable and enjoyable, and is willing to study, work, put in the effort whatever it takes to hang on to what most of us have realized is one of the best rigs on the road. >>

What is really funny Doug, the automatic trans, if maintained properly is one tough little trans, requiring only a periodic fluid, and filter change.

Less problematic, than the 4 speed, and the parts that go along with it to make it function. ( Clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, clutch hydraulics, etc.)

Yea, I now I'm stepping on some toe's, and the 4 speed is probably more popular, but the automatic set up is a good deal for the long haul, and less prone to failure.
