It's gonna cost him some big dollars to repair the trans.

Like close to 4 large, and not hundred, I'm talking thousand.

Huh? 4 grand to rebuild a syncro trans? Tell him to run a stock 2WD tranny till he gets the 5sp back on the road. I find it difficult to believe one has to spend that much to get a syncro trans rebuilt.
