I recently had a similar problem on my Syncro. The temp gauge would hover 1-2 needle-widths above the LED. Replacing the Temp2 sensor had little effect. To make a long story short, I solved it by replacing the two large ground points behind the fuse box under the dash. I also ended up replacing several of the corroded spade connectors, which were so brittle from corrosion that they broke apart. It's a PITA to do, but I will never overlook this on another van. My Syncro temp gauge now sits right on the LED in the 115F desert heat. Michael Snow 1987 Syncro GL camper 1986 GL 1982 Westfalia 1.9D

By hot I mean that the temp. needle is just above the led. When I go up hills I have to put the front heater on to keep the needle around the led. > > How can I tell if it is the thermostat, waterpump, air in the system or even a faulty temp sensor or gauge? > Is it OK to run at this temperature?
