>I verified this scam warning at snopes.com - >http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp - and it is legit, not >an urban legend. So this is worth reading. Yep... NEVER give your card number (or any part thereof), PIN number, password etc to ANYONE who asks for it over the phone or by e-mail. PayPal & eBay will never ask for such details, though I frequently get such requests, often looking JUST like real messages from the outfits, and I always forward them to <spoof@...>, and alowys get a "Yes, this is a scam" reply. And never give ANY details, even to genuine folk, over a cordless phone (including cellphones, satphones). These phones are radios. There are LOTS of people out there with scanners (which should be illegal, as there is NO honest purpose for anyone to be sitting listening to one of these), and if they hear your details they can pull a fast one on you. I had a conversation (a butter argument with my wife) over my cordless at work overheard by a nosy bastard in our taxi company who was listening in with his scanner, and the argument was all over the company a day later (resulted in legal threats).
