Vanagons with 2.1 engines do not have those relays. The other wire has nothing to do with the fuel injection or fuel pump. The other wire is there because John has an automatic tranny, as I posted earlier. The other wire merely provides a way to connect to the key switch start signal after it has passed through the gear shift safety interlock A screwy way to do so perhaps, but that is all it is. The wire runs from the starter all the way back up to the dash fuse panel area. The exact use of the other wire, if any, depends on the year of 2.1 and what options are on the vehicle.

Bentley page 97.204 shows the starter wiring for 1990, with only ONE wire to terminal 50.

Bentley page 97.220 shows the starter wiring for 1990 Automatic, TWO wires to terminal 50.
