Having just installed those center rails....

On regular passenger Vanagons, there are two rails. One is longer than the other. Both are of a different size than that which was used for the Westy's with a middle seat option.

On Westy's the two rails are the same length as each other. they fit into a nice track in the floor and have covers. You CAN get by without all of that, by putting the rails on top of your existing floor. The bolts in the frame are already there. All you have to do is drill through the existing floor.

However, there are other ways to do this more neatly (as I did prior to getting the correct rails. ) Check my webpage <http:// homepage.mac.com/kimbrennan/PhotoAlbum8.html>

That was using two of the shorter rails from a regular Vanagon. This was sufficient for the single seat, but not a two person bench.

I'll post pictures of the installation using the real Westy parts sometime in the next couple of days. Suffice it to say at this point, that to do the installation properly (as was done at Westfalia) is quite a bit of work. You'll need to pull the rear bench, the fridge and loosen up the stove cabinet (so that you can lift it up an inch or so). Then you'll be able to pull out the existing flooring so that you can cut it. It helps to have all the proper parts too (they were in 1985 Westy's).

I was lucky and Chris Turner had a set for sale recently (thanks Chris!). I had looked for quite some time before he managed to get a set.
