We did Newfoundland a few years ago. It's a big island and 5 or 6 days is not a lot of time. We loved Gros Morne National Park -- fabulous scenery amd great hiking. The Viking site at L'Anse aux Meadows is also great --- we saw lots of icebergs there, which were a highlight of the trip for us. I recall hearing that icebergs were scarce this year so that may not work out for you. Look for a local music festival --- we happened upon one and had a great day. Be a shame to come this far and miss Cape Spear (easternmost point of North America). Book your return ferry now, particularly if you're planning to leave from Argentia. It can be hard to get space this time of year. St John's is definitely worth a look. When there drive down to Bay Bulls for a Puffin/Whale Watching tour. For camping, the provincial parks are excellent and cheap.

Have fun, Doug
