You should plug the hoses, not couple them together. When you couple them you provide another way for coolant to bypass the radiator without being able to control it like the valve on the rear heater did.

I went ahead and replaced the heater hoses from the engine to the front heater core and eliminated the "t" connectors at the same time when I removed my heater. I used the wiring and the switch hole on the dash for my cruise control installation.
