Thanks for the responses on the oil- My mechanic works on both my aircooled & watercooled buses & is a no bs, been working on vw's since the 60's kind of mechanic. I tend to trust him, which is unusual, & have him do the things I don't have time/expertise/experience to do which on the wasserboxer is almost everything. The 84 has 84,000 miles on the og engine, runs great, has only had the heads done on warranty recall back in the mid 80's. Does not use much oil or coolant, FWIW.

I t is amazing to hear the different view points on this subject, now if I could only get a consensus!!!?
