I've never had another issue like that out of hundreds sold. I would really doubt that it actually came from the factory that way. My guess is that a less than honest customer "pulled one over on us;" they bought a canvas, damaged it, patched it up somewhat, then returned it for a refund claiming it wasn't used and not needed, and we didn't notice the damage. You'd be amazed at some of the returns we get - even as extreme as someone buying a new part and then trying to return their dirty broken part in the new box for a refund. It doesn't happen everyday but it does happen. We inspect returns pretty carefully and usually catch this sort of thing (especially when the one we get back has a production date from twenty years ago!), but a less obvious case like this one could potentially have slipped through.
