Honestly, I'll never understand what it is diesel people have against ECU's.
They'll build a highly idiosyncratic hybrid engine out of parts from three
different designs instead of just using the dang electronic TDI pump and ECU
that VW made just for that purpose. Presumably it's all in the name of
"reliability through simplicity", but it doesn't seem to work all that well.

 Good find. That is indeed the van but w/o the roof box, extra tank, & extra 
battery (even battery covers are gone). There's a riveted, circular patch of 
sheetmetal on the driver's side where the tank's fill pipe presumably used 
to reside. No alloy wheels (steel wheels w/o hubcaps). No camping gear. I 
don't remember seeing any curtains either. I guess the guy who gave it to 
the current owner* bought it sans those items as the website suggested was 
possible.

*ATTN bmc: we're not trying beat up on you. this is the nature of this 
community. if somene else is interested, it's good to know some of these 
things prior to their purchase. i certainly would have liked to know these 
things. BT
