Watch out for the words "rebuilt" and "reman". Rebuilt just gets a quick cleaning and a lookee and then minor replacement parts and a quick test. Reman gets all moving parts replaced or inspected for specifications. Note the word "specifications". Rebuilt gets checked to just see if it works at test time. The other gets tested to see if it meets the orig specs. There is fudging on the terms by some not so nice rebuilders though. Another brief we just got from a major rebuilder of other auto parts like brake cylinders and steering assemblies is. In the first few years many cores get rejected. In later years as the cores become rarer they are now on second and third rebuilds and they have to make use of almost any they can get. jimt On 9/6/05 9:33 PM, "Robert Cardo" <rrecardo@WEBTV.NET> wrote: > Real Good Point Al. > > Who know's how long that reman starter was laying in some mud hole prior > to it being scooped up and set to the production line rebuilder. > > I hight doubt any of the winding get checked at all. > Wham bam, > Thank You Mam. > > > > <<I like the idea of fixing one of my own units with a known history, > rather than an Autozone unit that came from an assembly-line rebuilder > who gets his cores from who-knows- where.>> > > |
