Valvoline I know has straight 50 weight racing oil available.

I have always been a believer in the old school of thought straight weight oils.

They do have less preponderence of losing their viscosity in heat, and with time.

In this summer's heat I would have no problem running straight 50 or 40 weight in the Van's in a blast across death valley ( most of the country was having death valley temps anyway )

The only problem here is, if your asleep at the wheel, and are not prudent with the oil change to lower weight oil when the temp starts dropping, they will be starting problems.

I had a 67 428 Bonneville coupe, with straight 40 in the engine and the temps one night went from +50 to -10 below.

I wanna tell you guys it took a smudge pot under the pan for 5 hours to get the engine to spin.

Other than using your coconut to be on top of the oils weight when the temps drop, ( or the temps rise ) there is nothing wrong with using straight weight oil.

I just got tired of being on a time clock with the oil weight. It was just easier to use a good muti viscosity oil, with frequent oil changes, and a quart of Marvel in it.
