Andrew,

Depends on what you mean by small.  The Spruance class destroyers are
~9000 tons and 563 feet long - is that small?

They are currently building the USS Makin Island, a Wasp class
amphibious assault ship that displaces 40,500 tons and is 844 feet
long - and that one won't be called small by anyone...

I just looked on the internet, and see that they decommisioned the USS
Elliot (DD-967) in December of 2003.  I commisioned that ship in
January 1977.  Now I feel REALLY old...
